We came as a family and a stayed in a clochnaben lodge which is a large 4 bed lodge with a hot tub. The balcony is great safe space for the dog. The lodge was large, clean and comfortable and well equipped. You get a some essentials in the lodge on your arrival like Tea, coffee, Milk, cereal, etc. The owners are kind and very helpful. There scenery is fab in the area and we enjoyed the walks nearby. The rooms were extremely spacious, and the hot tub was large enough to accommodate all guests. The owners and staff were lovely and very accommodating. Negative reviews are exaggerated! Castlewood was beautiful and definitely worth every penny for the outstanding views! Thank you for a lovely stay. Cleaned to a decent... read moreI made the unusual 'error' of booking this without checking the reviews, then when I did see them I was very worried that I had made a big mistake. It was completely unnecessary though. The cabin was lovely: tasteful modern decor and very comfortable. Cleaned to a decent standard, with everything you need provided (includes digital TV, free WiFi, washing machine, dishwasher, separate fridge and freezer).The bedrooms are small, but comfortable and perfectly functional on the basis that we didn't go there to stay in our bedrooms! Kitchen is kitted out with all the basic utensils, etc, but do take anything more specialist that you think you might need.As others have mentioned, there is a fine payable if you touch the heating, however, the cabin is plenty warm and cosy enough - in fact we found it a little too warm at times and had to open the windows!Hot tub maintained daily. Very relaxing and a key feature for us in choosing this cabin. Only negative is that you do need to take extra care on the decking - they really should add mesh or something as it is very slippery.Great location, lovely and quiet in beautiful countryside with lots of walks in the local area and good opportunities for eating out in the nearby Banchory. Cabins are a little close together, so not very private, but it wasn't a problem.Owner and staff were all absolutely lovely and friendly. We loved the extra little touches - essentials like milk and cereals waiting for us when we arrived, and a beautifully decorated Christmas tree to help make our stay extra special.Thank you for helping to make our Christmas perfect! read lessKatLeg03/01/20 Just had the most amazing Christmas here with my family! We are just back from a fantastic weeks break at Castlewood lodges staying between the 20th and 27th of December in Clochnaben Lodge 22, a four bedroom lodge, used by a family of 5, 2 adults and 3 children aged between 9 and 16 and also a large boxer dog.... read moreWe are just back from a fantastic weeks break at Castlewood lodges staying between the 20th and 27th of December in Clochnaben Lodge 22, a four bedroom lodge, used by a family of 5, 2 adults and 3 children aged between 9 and 16 and also a large boxer dog. This is the first time we have been away as a family for Christmas but I don't think we could have picked a better place to stay. We were met by the owner at the lodge, and despite what some of the other reviews state, he was polite and helpful and was more then happy for us to put up Christmas lights and decorations outside the lodge. We were provided with cereals, tea, coffee and milk on our arrival which was a nice touch and sees you through until you can get to the coop, about 7 mins away or the large Tesco, about 15 mins away. The lodge itself is stunning, see pictures attached. All the bedrooms are a good size with the master being an en-suite with a toilet, sink and shower. The open plan living room, kitchen and dining room is large with free view TV, and a fully stocked kitchen. We did take additional pots and pans but that was our choice for Christmas Dinner, we could have managed without. It also had a decorated tree up which was a nice touch for the time of year. The lodge is heated on a pre set timer which you can't adjust, but it was always warm when needed, mornings and evenings but if it did get cold during the day you can always jump in the hot tub or throw a blanket over yourself. There is no phone or 4g signal on ee, but the free WiFi was more then adaquete to keep 3 boys happy, anyone with kids will know how good that Internet needs to be. We only had one more interaction with the owners during our stay and that was to request a hoover, lodges don't come with one but with a dog we felt it would be handy. The hoover was brought to the lodge within half an hour so we couldn't ask for anymore. Overall we had a fantastic, relaxing and peaceful Christmas, the park was full for our stay but it never had the feeling of being over crowded or that people were on top of each other, we had such a good time we are already looking at booking again for next year. Ps, sorry for leaving the food in the fridge, we totally forget to empty it!!! The lodge itself was excellent, very nice and spacious. Had no issues with the WiFi The owner was lovely and had a brief chat with us on arrival. She had even put a pint of milk in the fridge very much needed after almost 10 hours on the road. Overall great stay. Didn’t have the hot tub , but would recommend. Hot tub was fantastic. We received a friendly welcome and had a thoroughly enjoyable and relaxing stay.
